Luxury Wiesmann GT, 2006
The 2-seater coupé celebrated its premiere as a production vehicle at the IAA 2005 in Frankfurt, to be acclaimed by the motoring experts.
Despite the suggestions of a classic design as a further development of the Wiesmann-Roadster it was a completely new car which was created. Basic data were gained from the Wiesmann Racing GT, which was tested as a experimental vehicle under extreme conditions during the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring in 2002.
Since it was clear from the outset that this vehicle would not only be optically different, but based on different fundamental data, from the Roadster, there was plenty of room for manoeuvre in the development. Starting point for considerations was the engine. This was to represent a new sparkle, come what might.
Since, as it is well known, displacement can only be replaced by one thing, and that is more displacement, thoughts quickly made friends with the idea of using a BMW V8 engine of 4.8 litres capacity. This made a larger engine compartment than the Roadster's essential, which consequently meant that all the dimensions of the Wiesmann GT would have to be oriented towards that.
The GT grew in all directions, compared with the Roadster: it was three centimetres higher, eleven wider, and no less than 37 longer. To take account of the rather higher fuel consumption of the larger engine, 10 litres additional fuel tank volume was provided, at 70 litres, to guarantee adequate range on longer journeys.
The challenge now facing the engineers was to convert the engine's output into vehicle dynamics. Normally, a larger vehicle also weighs more, which in turn adversely affects the performance figures. This was avoided by designing an aluminium monocoque, familiar from the racing scene. In this way, the increase in weight was kept within bounds, and at 70 kg was extremely modest for a car of this size. The bodywork is of lightweight, high-quality, fibreglass-reinforced compound material and in the familiar manner is also fabricated in the factory.
The xenon headlights ensure good visibility in darkness, and the rear lights, which consist of LEDs, not only give a clear signal but are also unmistakable as the hallmark of the Wiesmann GT even at night.
With a power-to-weight ratio of 3.41 kg/HP the Wiesmann GT is to be found in the leading group of sports cars. The low centre of gravity, the perfectly-tuned running gear combined with the bullish torque delivered by the engine, the optimum seating position for driver and passenger ensure unalloyed driving enjoyment.
The Wiesmann GT is an individual sports car with a classic design, which fits perfectly in the automotive landscape and which will capture its own niche.

Modern Models 2010 Vehicle Reliability Winners and Losers
The J. D. Power and Associates has released a report on long-term reliability of new vehicles. Performance metrics are measured based on “problems per 100 vehicles” (PP100). A lower PP100 score means that the vehicle is more dependable. The study is based on the survey results from 52,000 original owners of 2007 model year vehicles.
The report has found that 25 out of 36 auto brands have shown improvements in long term reliability when compared to 2009. Furthermore, the average PP100 for 2010 has dropped to 155, a 7% improvement from last year.
This year’s vehicle reliability award goes to Porsche, which received perfect scores in almost every category. Other top performers include: Buick, Lexus, Lincoln, and Mercury (a division of Ford in U.S.). All of them received five-star dependability rating. Other honourable brands that have earned four-star rating are Honda and Toyota.
Brands with the worst reliability ratings are: Jeep, Land Rover, and Suzuki. All of them received a two-star rating in every category.

New of 2013 Porsche “Baby” Boxster
Here comes another creative idea from Porsche: a baby Boxster code named, “New 356″. It is likely to have a 2.0L fuel-efficient engine that pumps out about 250hp. The engine may be shared with the upcoming Audi R4.
On the sales front, lower-end models in a luxury brand tend to sell – the Audi A3, BMW 1 and 3 Series, Mercedes B and C Class, and the Lexus IS are some examples. Furthermore, if automakers offer features on lower-end models that are also available in the top-end models, there is the psychological effect of “Hey! My A3 has the same LED headlights as the R8!” Having a baby Boxster in the product line-up would attract people who love Porsches that are “not quite there yet”.
If the price is right for the baby Boxster, it can even lure some of the potential 335i, M3, CLK, and SLK buyers to “convert”. The real problem is, the baby Boxster would also compete with its own Audi TT, TTS and even the existing Boxster if Porsche is not being careful enough in the pricing. Pricing it too high defeats the purpose of its existence (Why would I get one if the true Boxster is only several thousands more?) Pricing it too low may make the brand look cheap (Everyone is driving a baby Boxster. Porsche is not special anymore.)
Only time will tell on whether the baby Boxster can actually make it into production. No matter how “baby” the mini Boxster is, people would buy it. After all, it is still a Porsche.

California Modern Cars - UE86FCTES5KY
The California legislature is considering regulating the color of cars and reflectivity of paint to reduce the energy requirements to cool them. A presentation on the proposed legislation by the California Air Resources Board is below.
The problem isn’t the color per se, but the reflectivity of the paint overall. And dark colors just don’t reflect well, so they are likely out. “Jet black remains an issue,” says the report.
Anyone who’s ever entered a very hot car knows that it can be cooled down immediately by driving a few feet with the windows open, effectively neutralizing any color-caused heat issues before engaging the air conditioner. But whatever, black is evil.
The new regulations would be phased in beginning in 2012, so if you want that black car, you better buy it soon. More on Autoblog and CrunchGear.
And you thought that black Toyota Pious you bought made you such a good person. Think again, you tree hating energy slob. Luckily, black websites are still ok, even though they, too, use more energy.
